Reticulated pythons are not going to eat any cows, or people, for that matter. Any "Retics" that may have been released/escaped in the state are already dead from the temperatures. They are mostly harmless animals, although their bites can be a bit of a hassle. I can understand the sensationalism of these stories in the news, but it's this sort of reaction that now has a bill in the House of Representatives calling for a federal ban on ALL pythons and boas. Next thing you know, they'll be coming for your dogs, because I can promise you dogs are more dangerous than any snake out there.

It's funny. I see rattlers every summer, but they are never anywhere that would bother me. It seems they are always sunning themselves on south-facing rock outcrops, just where you'd expect them to be.

I do worry about the cougars. We saw some tracks just the last week not far from our house. I make us go out in groups at dawn and dusk...

Here in Montana, garter, gopher and rattle snakes make their home. I am extraordinarily phobic of snakes, and I don't mind admitting so.

I was out for an early morning run two mornings ago when I came across a (thankfully dead) rattle snake...it creaped me out, even though is was all squishy-squashy on the side of the road.

Little did I know, a couple hours later, I would find out that yet another mountain lion has been spotted roaming our neighborhood.

Oh, yeah--did I mention that? We have cougars in MT too!

Uh, why does the phrase "nibbled to death by mice" keep going through my mind, Jeanie? Thanks for the suggestion, but I think I'll just check the washer for pythons every so often and hope for the best.

Oh my - snakes are scary animals. Just take 100 mice with you everywhere and use them as bribery to get out of the embrace of the python.
