This is an absolutely beautiful way of putting it. Patching makes the heart stronger, and perhaps, ready for the everyday wear-and-tear that everyone faces in life.

Your son Mike was clearly a blessing for you and your family. And that blessing “shines on” through the grief, the pain, and the “heart patches.”

Again, what a beautiful way to put it. It is pure poetry. This way of saying it reminds me so of the old Yiddish saying:
There is nothing so whole as a broken heart.”

I wish you peace and wholeness and blessing as you come through the anniversary of Mike’s death once again.

Thank you, all of you, for the kind comments. You’re all some of the people who put a little bit of the patch on my heart with your blogs or words or – in Amy’s case – by having a beautiful healthy little girl and sharing her progress with me.

Doc, I love your cat story. I’m going to show it to my daughter, who loves cats and critters of all kinds. It shows how wrong the stereotype of the aloof feline is and how supportive mothers of any “stripe” can be when babies are involved and there’s a sisterly bond.

This is Bob & Jo’s daughter. Your post really touched me. My mom talks about your family so warmly , and I know she has a little, tiny (in comparison to yours) Mike-shaped hole in her heart as well, as he really touched her.

You know, I still think about your son from time to time. I remember that you wrote another beautiful tribute to him some time back. About his generous spirit – and his wisdom. I also remember that it left me in tears – as this one did. I’m so very sorry for your loss, Lill. I didn’t realize how recent it was.

That was just beautiful. And it really puts life in perspective, to think about the things we haven’t lost, when compared to those things we might have to suffer losing.
